(Plus! Don't Miss The Valentine's Day Special at the Bottom of the Page!)
I decide since the Olympics have started, I would repost my Olympic experience for you. Less turmoil, more freedom and safety back in the day, but I'm sure you are aware of this.
ANYWAY! Let's go down happy memory lane together!
In 1983 when I was just a very young newlywed, I had the amazing opportunity to accompany my husband who is a Chiropractor and Naturopath doctor to Italy.
But Wait! Let me back this up and tell you the story from the beginning.
In 1983 George received a phone call from one of his chiropractic friends who knew of an opportunity to practice in Italy and thought he might want to apply for the position in a famous Medical Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Pisa, Italy. They were good friends and since he knew George had extensive training in sports medicine, traveling with the Broadway shows like A Chorus Line, Dancin, Ain’t Misbehavin, the San Francisco Ballet, Portland Meadows Racetrack jockeys, etc. he thought this opportunity might be a good fit.
Long story short, he got the position in the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic and off we flew!
Doc as we call him!
Doc was not only a hit with the young and old, but also the athletes. You see, CONI, the National Italian Olympic Center, is located in Tirrenia about 20 minutes from the Pisa clinic.
First the athletes came, and then the coaches who saw how their athletes were training better. They wanted to find out about this American Chiropractor practicing in Italy.
He was invited to come for a “trial practice run” at the Olympic training facility, where he treated world-class athletes from all over the world and all fields. Baseball, basketball, soccer, rugby and of course track and field.
By the summertime, there was a consensus among the coaches and athletes that Doc should have a position on the medical staff of the Italian Olympic Team which was exciting. Viva Italia!
What does this story have to do with skin care you ask?
A lot!
You all pretty much know my story. I have sensitive skin issues and I have to keep them in-check while I travel.
My mom and grandmothers taught me a lot about taking care of my skin naturally, but once I started meeting different women from different countries all over the world, I got an even bigger picture of the importance of natural skin care products that were made with organic and natural ingredients and that they had to be formulated together in a specific order for ultimate effectiveness.
One day, shortly after I arrived in Italy, I ran out of my moisturizer. Remember I was very young and flew by the seat of my pants a bit, still sometimes do! This is a very free and fun way to live, but not so fun when you don't plan far enough ahead with your skin care products!
Sooo...
I started looking in the shops and since my Italian was far from perfect, actually almost non-existent at this point, I got frustrated and would go back to our apartment trying to figure out what to do about protecting my skin in the extremely hot, Italian summer sun. We were on the "Italian Riviera" in Tirrenia a lot!
Panic setting in!
I frantically looked through all my boxes and bags, looking for something that would work until I got better acquainted with Pisa and some of the women in my area.
Bingo!
I found an ointment in one of my bags called Weber’s Ointment that I used quite often for rashes and other kinds of skin issues. This company has since gone out of business, but the ingredient deck had lanolin (which I would never use now), minerals and some essential oils. I had never applied this ointment to my face, but it was worth a try and to my surprise it worked perfectly! Young skin is also more forgiving.
I'm Starting to get my "sea legs"...
Once I learned some of the language and was able to communicate with not only the Italian women, but also some French, German and Spanish women (yes, most of them spoke some English :)), I could ask questions about their skin care routine and products. They were so fascinating to talk to about natural skin care products, natural and organic ingredients, where to buy them and how to combine them to make my own cleanser, toner and moisturizer (Lovingly called "The Trinity" in skin care).
The two products that have my beloved olive oil in them and why!
Gentle Crème Cleanser and Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque has organic Olive Fruit Oil!
Olive oil will always hold a special place in my heart because it was one of the first ingredients I used on my skin in Italy, not only for hydration, but also removing dirt, grime, and makeup!
What a dream come true.
A whirlwind, cosmopolitan lifestyle that brought me full circle in developing and selling Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care, a skin care company with a huge European history. Natural science, top of the line fresh, naturally potent ingredients that are formulated correctly. I really don't think there is a better way of producing high quality skin care.
P.S. "I am deeply grateful for all of you!"
In French: "Je vous suis profondément reconnaissante!" In Italian: Sono molto grato!
With love and blessings,
Rebecca
