"Skinimalism" (say that five times fast!) and scaling back on skin care products is the current beauty trend.
Experts agree that the skin only needs three to four products. It’s all about achieving clean, healthy and glowing skin, but with a minimal amount of products.
I have been talking to you about the benefits of being a "Skinimalist", Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care products and the "French Way" for the past twelve+ years. Keeping your life as simple as possible, plus caring for your skin with natural and organic skin care products like Dr. Lucy's, will help you in staying grounded and having calm, youthful and glowing skin.
5 Simple "Food for thought"...
1.As the number of products in your routine grows, so does your risk of inflammation. Layering products exposes the skin to an increasing number of potentially irritating and sensitizing ingredients. Check to be sure you are only layering ingredients that pair well together.
2."Sometimes people are using three or four products that do the same thing, or they're mixing products that shouldn't be used together," says dermatologist Corey L. Hartman, M.D.
3.Using too many skin care products can damage the moisture barrier. The more things that come in contact with skin, the more opportunity for disrupting the skin's pH balance which leads to moisture loss, irritation and skin aging.
4."Fragrance" listed in the product ingredient deck, represents one of the most common causes of allergic contact dermatitis.
5.Exfoliating more than once or twice a week can “breaks down the skin barrier exposing your skin to a higher risk of sensitivity and sun damage” and causing inflammation. Says board-certified dermatologist Zenovia Gabriel, M.D.
Let's talk about the "5 major steps" in a French woman’s daily skin care routine...
The five major areas of attention are 1) cleansing the skin, 2) toning the skin, 3) using the best natural face serums, moisturizers and face oils to nourish the skin, 4) nightly regimens with an anti-aging serum and 5) weekly to monthly facials which can be done in your own home, or in a natural, botanical product salon if you prefer.
Keeping chemical skin care products at bay...
Americans have an unfortunate perception that a beauty product only works if they can feel it working. Due in part to this perception, many American skin care companies pack their products with harsh, inactive ingredients that do little more than cause irritated skin. Just remember chemicals with smaller molecules can enter the bloodstream through your skin and thus your systems and organs. The average woman applies 200+ chemicals through cosmetics and skin care products alone during the course of the day. I think you will agree that is a extremely high number!
Did you know that the U.S. FDA only bans or restricts around 11 chemicals compared to the 1,328 banned chemicals by the European Union?
You would be even more worried if you learned that many of these poorly regulated substances are associated and linked to all kinds of harmful side effects, including skin irritation, birth defects, hormonal imbalances and even cancer.
Why do they add sooo many chemicals to skin care products?!
It's actually quite simple, and it has nothing to do with your health and protection! In a nutshell...
It's cheap. Which equals a better profit margin.
It's faster to produce. Same as above.
It adds volume. Same as above.
It (almost) lasts forever. Same as above.:)
It looks 'perfect'. White looking products usually equal chemicals.
The "pièce de résistance" is because they can. They don't think about, nor care about you or your health. Sorry that was a bit harsh, but I know you know this and I know you know I do care about you and your health.
With Love and Blessings,
Rebecca
