Dr. Lucy Has You Covered With 6 Helpful Tips!
Fall is here, and the cold winter weather is approaching quickly! We have put away our summer dresses and flip flops and have overnight pulled out our warmer, cozy clothing.
In this October Dr. Lucy Skin Care Newsletter, I will be talking about some of the do’s and don'ts of skin care during these cold, dry months, so let’s just dive right in!
With so little moisture in the air, it’s more important than ever to ensure skin gets properly hydrated in order to avoid flakiness, crepey or rough texture, acne, poor elasticity and worsened appearance of lines and wrinkles. We must use the right products in order to keep skin healthy and firm.
Like I said, Fall and Winter can be extremely drying and quite honestly damaging to our tender and yes sensitive skin. Being extra careful and gentle with your skin during this time of year will help to keep your skin hydrated, calm, plump and dewy even in the coldest of temperatures.
Your Helpful Skin Saving Tips During the Next Six Months!
1. Stay away from the intense exfoliation!
According to Dove Dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba, we exfoliate way more than we should hoping that the intense rubbing off of dead skin cells daily will improve our skin.
“Over-exfoliating can strip the skin of its essential oils, leading to breakouts in the dryer, colder months”, she says.
2. Invest in a hydrating cleanser
“Dry skin is more than just unsightly and uncomfortable, it can lead to serious skin problems such as worsening of eczema, psoriasis and cause winter itch”, says Dr. Barba.
A cream cleanser, like Dr. Lucy’s, that is nutrient dense with specific carrier oils for protection and deep cleansing, is your new best friend.
3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
A proper moisturizer, like the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer, is a key player in keeping your skin super hydrated ALL DAY, protected and nourished. Botanical Hyaluronic Acid holds 1000 times its weight in moisture for nonstop hydration.
4. Add extra hydrating products before bedtime!
Bedtime is the perfect time to up your moisturizer and face oil. You are looking to decrease collagen breakdown so don’t be afraid to seriously moisturize!
5. Hydrating masques? “Ben ouais!”…obviously!
I am a big fan of hydrating masks for their nutrients and ability to heal, calm and hydrate. Not such a fan of drying or peeling masques at all because of how they can actually dry out your skin, breakdown elastin and disrupt the skin surface.
6. Your humidifier is your anti-aging time machine!
Mona Gohara, MD, a Danbury, Connecticut-based dermatologist talks on the benefits of humidifiers. “They definitely add moisture to the skin, and this is important from a skin health perspective,” she tells us. “This moisture can leave the skin radiant, glowing, dewy, and even a bit more plump; these, I suppose could be credited as anti-aging benefits."
With Love and Blessings!
